Targeted Ads Are Coming Your Way

Commercial zapper or remote? Posted by Hello

I don't watch a lot of prime-time television ... most of my viewing is later, when the comedies in syndication come on. I'm a sucker for Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, The Drew Carey Show and others.

Oh, and The Daily Show. Must-see TV.

But when I do watch television, I avoid the commercials by flipping around from channel to channel (I can say that now, since a global advertising firm no longer pays my salary).

You probably do, too. It's one of the reasons that advertisers and networks are casting a concerned eye toward the future.

But BusinessWeek marketing writer David Kiley, in his blog Brand New Day, reports on new technology that cable companies are testing to send targeted ads to specific demographics, ensuring that you see only commercials that you might be interested in.

It's a good read ... insight into what the future holds for TV viewers and marketers.
