I Don't Get The Podcasting Thing

I don't understand the excitement over podcasting. But at least I know I'm not alone.

Mark Cuban, the dot-com billionaire and renegade NBA owner, says it will be difficult to make money podcasting.

My confusion is more basic.

For starters, I've never liked listening to anything via headphones. To me, that's something you do when you're 15 and trying to avoid your parents.

It's just too direct, and the ear buds are annoying.

Second -- and some of you will find this hard to believe -- but I've never seen any adult listening to an iPod.

I know they do. I just haven't seen it. It's a lifestyle thing, I believe.

Unless you commute via train or subway, where do you find the time to listen to some guy talking via an audio player? There are ways to connect your iPod to your car radio, I suppose, but that just seems like a giant pain in the posterior.

Finally, I can't imagine that anyone has anything interesting enough to say to keep my attention for more than a couple of minutes. But then, I don't like talk radio, either.

I'm not criticizing podcasts or anyone who likes them. I say the more media, the merrier. I just don't get it on a personal level.

Oh, and this guy seems to agree.
