Journalism Students -- We Need You
There's never been a better time to enter the journalism field.
So says Gary Goldhammer, who writes the excellent blog Below The Fold.
Gary makes an impassionated plea to j-school students to "stay the course" and help usher in a new era of journalism, rather than make the switch to PR.
I agree ... we need journalists, and especially journalists who can successfully navigate an always-on, 24-hour, highly competitive world.
And I'll add a second point ... we need young people to hone their writing and reporting skills in the journalism profession BEFORE they become PR people.
Without exception, the best PR writers I know all learned the craft in journalism -- not at an agency.
