What Business Needs: Honesty

I had the opportunity to attend a day-long energy conference yesterday on behalf of a client.

The keynote speaker was Lou Dobbs, the well-known business journalist and host of CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight.

He was frank, opinionated and funny. And one of his main points fits perfectly into what so many professional communicators are saying about the world of marketing and public relations.

What business needs, he said (and I'm paraphrasing here), is honesty. Straight-forward talk. Less spin, less political correctness.

The same goes for politicians, he said. And he urged the audience to hold its leaders -- business and otherwise -- to a higher standard.
