Living in between two camps of PR people
Sometimes it seems that the PR world has been divided into two camps.
One is sold on social media and spends many waking moments talking and writing about it on blogs, podcasts and other forums. These folks go to conferences, speak at conferences, listen to conferences, then post and post and post and talk and talk and talk about what a difference social media is making.
The other camp could care less.
I've come to this realization by spending time with marketers and public relations professionals -- some of whom are very tech-savvy -- that don't give a fig about what blogger wrote what about whom.
And it really hit home for me when I spent a week at the lake recently with real-live consumers who are so busy living their lives that they don't have time for virtual or electronic worlds. After 12 months of being immersed up to my neck in social media trends and blog cacophony, it was a definite eye-opener.
So I'm trying to live in the middle. Blog a little. Live a little.
It's a great place to be. I can hang out successfully with both camps, and I can try and help both sets of folks better understand the other.
Won't you join me? Step away from the computer and get outside your office. Spend some time with real people. It'll give you a new perspective. I promise.
